Based on the requirement for research and training in
urban development administration and the recommendations made by Nuruddin
Committee, the Ministry of Health and Family Planning, Government of India
in 1968, decided to establish Centres for Training and Research in
Municipal Administration in different parts of the country. In pursuance
of this policy, the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies
came into being. Since then it has been functioning with the support of
the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India as well as the
Government of U.P. and other constituent states.
