To provide advisory and consultancy services to the Departments of Urban Development and other related Departments & Agencies
in the participating States and Govt. of India on various issues relating to urban administration, urban planning and development and management of environmental and ecological aspects.

To implement government schemes and projects given by the Departments of Urban Development and other related Departments & Agencies of the participating States and Govt. of India.

To collaborate with other agencies, institutions and organizations in such a manner as may be necessary for the promotion of the objectives of the Centre.

To undertake training of personnel and elected representatives of State Government, Urban Local Bodies in the States and other agencies dealing with Urban affairs and also for personnel from other developing countries.

To undertake orientation courses for directly recruited municipal officers in the field of municipal administration and related matters.

To organize seminars, workshops, symposia, conference, study tours etc. on various facets of urban government and administration.

To under take problem oriented research relating to various facets of municipal administration and related matters.

To act as a clearing house of ideas and information on research, environment and urban ecology.

To discharge any other functions that may be entrusted to the Centre by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India or the participating State Governments from time to time.

To prepare, print and publish papers, periodicals and books in furtherance of the objectives of the Centre.

To do all other things that are incidental to or decisive for the attainment of furtherance of the aims and objectives of the Centre and,

To do all the other things that are incidental to or decisive for management and control of the Centre.
